Ilkeston Local meeting

coffeeWhen we gathered feedback in 2015 on how the forum does things parents said they would like us to be in the local area more often. We are going to Ilkeston on Friday 8th January 2016 to talk to parent and carers about their local area, and to update you on what the forum has been doing. Come along and have a coffee/tea and a chat with us.

We will be at The Arena, Rutland Street, Ilkeston, DE7 9DG from 10:30 -12:00

AGM

On 18th March 2016, we are holding our Annual General Meeting,  We have some great speakers, that will help you think about how parents can get involved and make a difference, both to the SEND community through Healthwatch and  to your own child/young person, thinking about SMART Outcomes, and Aspirations.  This is your chance to learn something new, and informed about changes, and to see what the forum has been doing, what our plans for 2016-2017 are, and hopefully celebrate our charity status.

The AGM will be held at the Derbyshire Hotel, 10:00-14:00 and lunch will be provided. You need to book you place. please see the link for more details and booking information

Parent Participation Training

We are running Free training on Parent Participation for parents and carers who are interested in becoming a parent Representative for the forum or who want to participate more meaningfully with their own services.  The workshop will run on 22nd  March 2016, at Ashover Village Hall, 10:00 – 14:30, there will be a free lunch, and the forum will reimburse any travel or childcare expenses to allow you to attend. Places are limited so book quickly by calling 01629 533 666 or emailing, info.dpcv@derbyshire.gov.uk with your name, contact details and any dietary requirement.

Education Health and Social Care Plans Information Gathering

Get Involved in EHC information gathering 

We have recently been working across Derbyshire and have heard mixed reports about Education Health and Social Care Plans, we are therefore conducting a short survey to find out parents views on the new process, weather you have applied for a plan and was not successful, Are you having your statement transferred to an EHC plan, You have a EHC plan already, where every you are in the process,  help us get a picture of EHC plans in Derbyshire.

Short Breaks

Your Short Breaks service will be cut if we don’t take action.  The consultation is now live so go online and have your say about these changes.

Derbyshire Parent Carer Voice want to put another report together to present to Derbyshire County Council, so after the EHC workshops, which are taking place over the next few weeks we are going to be talking to parents/carers and getting your feedback. We want to hear from everyone about how they use their short breaks around 700 children/young people access a short break through Aiming High, What difference it makes to your family?, what would happen if it was cut?,  We would like to also talk to anyone who uses it to access a weekly group for example swimming or dancing, how will the proposed 40 hours a year affect you?

from the 1st of janaury Derbyshire parent forum has been know as Derbyshire Parent Voice, it was felt this new name reflects better the forums aims…… We want to be your voice to services tell us what you think, suggests topics, give us your feedback together we can make a difference

WANT TO JOIN THE STEERING GROUP?

We are looking for enthusiastic parents to join the Steering Group. Steering Group members help shape the information presented to the district forums, attend meetings on behalf of parents to ensure their voice is listened to within Derbyshire County Council and campaign for Jargon free publications.

In return for your support we will provide subsidised access to training to increase your knowledge of the new SEND legislations, minute taking , social media training, website design and many other opportunities that would help you in your role as a Steering Group member. We will also refund your travel and childcare expenses for work undertaken for Derbyshire Parent Forum (receipts will be required).
